The Arts Society Sheffield was founded as Sheffield DFAS in 1976 and has been a dynamic, welcoming society ever since.

We meet in the morning of the third Thursday of the month except in July, August and December. We do have a waiting list but prospective members can come as guests, for which a small charge is made.

Members receive the The Arts Society REVIEW magazine, published quarterly and our biannual newsletter. The Arts Society Sheffield is twinned with Bowral ADFAS in Australia.

Lectures are held on the morning of the third Thursday of each month except July, August and December, at 11 am. Attendees gather from 10.15am for coffee. Lectures usually finish by 12.15 pm. The AGM is held after our April lecture. A limited number of guests and those on the waiting list are welcome to attend at a charge of £5 if space permits. A member can bring a guest on 2 occasions during the lecture programme year. Please contact the Membership Secretary ( to book a space.

We normally have two Study Days days per year. These may be at Tapton or at the venue of interest. We have tea or coffee on arrival at 10 am. The day can be split into 3 sessions each lasting about an hour. If at a distant venue the event may only be a half day, allowing for travel. There is ample opportunity to ask questions and study days are normally great fun as well as being informative.

Again we normally have two Outings/Visits per year, quite often involving coach or rail travel.
